Dillian Whyte To Fight Deontay Wilder, As Tyson Fury Prepares To vacates WBC Heavyweight Title…

Tyson Fury has been ordered to defend his WBC heavyweight title against Dillian Whyte next. However, in boxing, no fight is guaranteed to take place until both men are standing opposite one another and the first bell rings. There is still a fair amount of ground that needs to be covered before Fury vs Whyte becomes a reality and other possibilities cannot yet be ruled out.
The WBC have now officially ordered the fight, but some issues remain unresolved. Standard procedure for a mandatory bout would see the sanctioning body give the parties 30 days for negotiations and then order purse bids if no deal is agreed.
Purse bids allow all promoters to bid for the fight, with the highest bidder winning the rights to promote it.
However, for purse bids to be possible, the sanctioning body need to rule on a percentage split for the fight, deciding who gets what portion of the winning bid.
This is a major issue of contention at present with Whyte currently locked in legal arbitration with the WBC.
As he’s been chasing his title shot for so long, the Brit initiated action against the sanctioning body last year.
The mandatory position he pursued is now secure, but he continues his fight for what he views as a fair percentage split.
Fury’s team have stated that an 80/20 purse split in their man’s favour is what they believe to be fair. Whyte acknowledges that Fury will of course get the majority as champion, but wants a far closer split of 55/45.
The ruling on this matter is now seemingly set to be decided by the arbitration court.
In the meantime, negotiations are making little progress, with representatives on both sides expressing a desire to know the final purse split as soon as possible.
Without this, it is difficult to realistically negotiate as the entire scenario will change depending on what split is ultimately decided.
While all this drags on, Fury is no doubt getting impatient.
The champion had a 20-month layoff between his last two fights with Deontay Wilder and does not intend to be inactive for so long again.
