Undefeated WBC heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury has extended a shock offer to train rival Anthony Joshua ahead of his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk.
Joshua lost his WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight titles to Ukrainian former cruiserweight champ Usyk after being outboxed at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. The pair are likely set for a rematch in 2022 – and Fury can ‘guarantee’ Joshua will win if the British fighter accepts his help.
Fury told Ben Damon from Foxtel’s Main Event: “I believe if I train Anthony Joshua for the fight with Usyk then he’d definitely win the fight.
“Well, you know, I’ve offered my services to him, for me to train him for his rematch. And I guarantee you he’d win!”
Asked how he’d train his rival, he said: “I’d get him to fight like a big man.”
Fury will fight Deontay Wilder, for a third time, on Sunday (AEDT) in a trilogy fight you can watch on Main Event.
Should he win, a fight against Usyk to unify the four belts looms large – but Fury is bullish that he can crush the Ukrainian champion.
“I just think he’d be another victim of mine. He’d be another number on the long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long (and so on, we lost count) undefeated record of the heavyweight champion of the world, me!”
